The research aims to assess the digital skills gaps among employees in the tourism and hospitality industry based on their job roles. The specific goals of the study include evaluating the current proficiency levels of digital skills, determining the desired proficiency levels for the future, identifying the gaps between the current and required future proficiency levels, examining the impact of country of registration, tourism sector, and organization size on digital skills gaps and proficiency levels, and understanding the digital skills training received by employees and the influence of country of registration, tourism sector, and organization size on the type of training provided. The study focuses specifically on assessing the digital skills gaps in the European tourism and hospitality industry. It examines the proficiency levels, future requirements, and training received by employees in different job roles within the industry. The research explores the influence of factors such as country of registration, tourism sector, and organization size on digital skills gaps. The research was conducted as part of a large European survey on the skills gaps of tourism and hospitality employees within the framework of the Next Tourism Generation (NTG) project. The survey involved companies and organizations from the tourism sectors in eight European countries, in the timeframe between 2020 and 2023. The research identified key digital skills gaps in the tourism and hospitality industry, particularly in AI, robotics, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality skills. Recognized the importance of online marketing and communication skills, social media skills, MS Office skills, and operating systems use skills for future digital skills requirements. It also found variations in digital skills gaps based on country of registration, sector, and organization size.
