Recommendations for the Transition to a Green Travel and Tourism Economy (developed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on Italy’s presidency of the G20 in 2021; published by the UNWTO in 2021).

The One Planet Vision by UNWTO outlines a sustainable recovery for the tourism sector post-COVID. It emphasizes conservation value, supports conservation efforts, and promotes nature-based solutions. The document advocates monitoring and reducing CO2 emissions, decarbonizing tourism operations, and engaging in carbon removal. Circular economy practices, sustainable food approaches, and plastic circularity are encouraged. The importance of measuring non-economic impacts, steering recovery funds toward sustainable goals, and fostering partnerships for implementation is highlighted. Integrating epidemiological indicators, connecting hygiene with sustainability, restoring trust through communication, and supporting vulnerable groups are emphasized. Special attention is given to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and repurposing tourism as a supporter for local communities.
